| One of the unique projects
we began here at the Pottsville Gymnastic Training Center is called the "Role
Model Project" We began this project in 1998 and it is the
first and only project of it's type in the United States.
Our team members- as a group- sent
letters to members on the national team. The letters are based
on setting goals and working to achieve goals and about role models.
Each girl also asked whatever questions they would like. The
questions ranged from goals and favorite recipes to getting advice on how
to deal with rips. Our girls were quite amazed at all the replies
they received and the many photos, autographs and extremely nice letters
were impressive. Mail has come from Olympians Shannon Miller,
Dominique Moceanu, Amy Chow, Dominique Dawes, Kerri Strug, Morgan White,
Elise Ray, Terin Humphrey, Courtney Kupets, Carly Patterson and Courtney
McCool to current USA stars Shawn Johnson, Shayla Worley, Nastia Liukin and Chelsie Memmel... to name a few!!! Many of
the gymnasts have formed pen pal relationships, sharing in their lives-
both gymnastics and personal. These letters, photos and words of wisdom
will be long remembered! |
